President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) to grant a general amnesty allowing employers, business owners, and self-employed members to settle unpaid contributions without interest and penalty charges.
The amnesty includes a one-time waiver of the three percent monthly compounded interest on unpaid premiums, which the President said has become a heavy financial burden for many members.
“Kaya’t inutusan ko po ang PhilHealth, gagawa tayo nitong taon na ito, 2026, ang tinatawag naming one-time waiver para sa interest ngayong taon,” said Marcos Jr.
The program is expected to benefit around 300,000 members, who will be given one year to pay all missed contributions from 2013 to 2024.
The Chief Executive also urged employers to update employee records and ensure enrollment in PhilHealth’s YAKAP primary care program, reiterating the government’s commitment to easing healthcare costs for Filipinos.IMT
