President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. urged Filipinos to strengthen disaster preparedness following the recent earthquakes that struck several parts of the country.

In his latest vlog titled Handa sa Sakuna, Marcos Jr. stressed the importance of knowing what to do before, during, and after emergencies. “Higit sa pagbangon o pagresponde, mas mahalaga ang maging handa,” he said.

Citing recent quakes in Cebu, Baguio, Surigao, Davao, Zambales, and Metro Manila, the President said disaster readiness must be second nature to Filipinos, as the country lies in the Pacific Ring of Fire.

He directed government agencies to intensify preparedness and response efforts and reminded families to create a contingency plan that includes evacuation routes and meeting places. Children and house helpers should also be aware of these plans, he added.

The President encouraged everyone to prepare a “go bag” containing food, water, medicines, first aid items, flashlights, whistles, important documents, and emergency cash.

Marcos Jr. also warned against fake news during disasters and advised the public to rely only on verified updates from official government sources such as PHIVOLCS, PAGASA, and local authorities.

He further underscored the need to follow building safety standards to ensure structures can withstand disasters.

“Likas sa ating bansa ang mga sakunang ito, kung kaya’t kailangan ay likas rin sa atin ang mga paalalang aking nabanggit… Mas marunong at mas maagap na ang bagong Pilipino.”IMT
