The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) has asked the Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate the Facebook page “Malasakit News Pilipinas” for allegedly spreading false reports about the country’s energy situation.
Acting Secretary Dave Gomez said the page circulated posts claiming an “Energy Lockdown,” “Fuel Shortage,” and “Emergency Lockdown” due to a COVID-19 variant.
“Any attempt to mislead the public about energy security…will be treated as a serious offense. We will not let you get away with a crime,” Gomez said.
The filing follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s order to hold “fake news” purveyors accountable.
Gomez said the PCO will continue monitoring social media for disinformation campaigns, including attacks on the First Family.IMT
