MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power), Iloilo City’s sole power distributor, has noted a significant increase in electricity demand.

According to MORE Power, electricity demand in the city grew by 13 percent this warm and dry season, or “summer,” as commonly referred to by Filipinos.

“Nagsaka gid ang atun demand ya tungon man sa kainit. In fact, last year compare this year, 13% ang pagsaka sa ginakonsumo ta nga kuryente,” said engineer Christopher Serojano, MORE Power Network Development Operations deputy head.

The extreme heat, he explained, prompted residents to use more cooling appliances, resulting in higher electricity demand.

To manage the high demand, MORE Power implemented emergency feeder load balancing measures to prevent overloading of feeders, which could potentially cause extended and widespread unscheduled power outages.

According to Serojano, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has prevented power utility distributors to conduct maintenance activities two weeks before and two weeks after elections.

“Maintenance natun nga limitasyon ginhatag sa aton sang COMELEC asta lang gid sa katapusan sang Abril. Pagsulod sang Mayo, 2 weeks before sang election kag tw0 weeks after sang election, indi na kita makapatigayon sang maintenance related. May ara kita load balancing nga ginahimo agud ma prevent ang mga indi malikawan nga problema,” he said.

“Kung indi ta siya balansehon, naga cause siya unbalances or ginatawag ta siya nga residual current. Posible makatrip sanga tun feeder kung indi ma normalize,” Serojano added.IMT
