As the summer season draws thousands of families to vacation destinations, the Police Regional Office (PRO-6) has advised the public to refrain from posting travel plans on social media to avoid becoming targets of criminal activities.

PRO-6 director Police Brigadier Gen. Josefino Ligan emphasized that sharing long vacation plans online could expose households to burglary and other crimes, particularly when homes are left unattended.

“Posting travel itineraries in real time may alert individuals with malicious intent. For safety, it is best to share photos and experiences only after returning home,” he said in an interview.

The police official underscored that maintaining privacy online is a simple yet effective security measure that can help protect families and properties during the peak travel season.

Beyond digital safety, PRO-6 also reminded travelers to remain vigilant while visiting tourist destinations. Authorities warned against common crimes such as scams and pickpocketing, which tend to increase during holidays and peak tourist periods.

The public is encouraged to stay alert in crowded areas, secure personal belongings, and coordinate with local authorities when necessary to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip.

Amid soaring temperatures, Ligan also advised travelers to prioritize their health by staying hydrated and avoiding prolonged exposure to extreme heat.

With these precautions, PRO6 aims to promote a secure and worry-free summer for residents and visitors across Western Visayas.IMT
