What was supposed to be an ordinary day at the Barangay Pantalan Hall in President Roxas, Capiz turned violent after Punong Barangay Kenneth Fabros and Treasurer Genelyn Peronilla exchanged punches, shocking fellow officials.
The confrontation last week was caught on CCTV. Footage showed Fabros confronting Peronilla, hurling bread at her, then throwing a punch. The treasurer retaliated, leading to a fistfight that other barangay staff struggled to break up.
In the heat of the scuffle, Fabros’s licensed firearm dropped to the floor. Peronilla picked it up, while the captain managed to seize her cellphone during the melee.
Fabros claimed that the tension stemmed from Messenger chats allegedly sent by Peronilla to his brother-in-law. Screenshots of these conversations reportedly reached his wife and later circulated in their family’s group chat.
Peronilla, however, pointed to a different cause. She said the misunderstanding may have been linked to solicitation activities for the barangay fiesta.
The treasurer admitted messaging Fabros’s in-law but maintained it was done in good faith, only to clarify information the captain himself had raised.
Peronilla sustained bruises on her arm and thigh, injuries confirmed by the K5 patrol team that responded to the scene.
Both officials are expected to issue formal statements, as the case is now under legal review.IMT
