The Iloilo City Government has rolled out PuroKalusugan, a community-based health program designed to bring essential health services closer to the grassroots by transforming barangays into frontline hubs of care.

The initiative was launched in Barangay Sooc, Arevalo, with Sooc, Sto. Niño, and Calaparan serving as the pilot implementation sites.

PuroKalusugan will deliver preventive care, disease prevention, and targeted interventions covering eight priority areas—including proper nutrition, maternal and child health, adolescent health, and environmental sanitation.

“This program decentralizes health services and brings them down to the barangay level—where they are most needed,” said Dr. Ma. Sophia Pulmones, Assistant Regional Director of the Department of Health (DOH) Western Visayas.

The launch featured a unity walk, pledge signing, and interactive health corners such as the WASH Corner, Immunization Lounge, Teenage Pregnancy Booth, and Nutrition Station.

City Health Officer Dr. Mary Ann Poli-Diaz stressed that good health can only be achieved through collective action.

“The government cannot do it alone. Building healthier lives requires shared effort from the entire community,” she said.

With PuroKalusugan, the city envisions each purok as an active center of health services—ensuring not just treatment for illness but also the foundation of stronger, healthier communities.IMT
