More 2,500 road crashes occurred in the province of Iloilo in the first seven months of 2025, data from the Philippine National Police’s provincial office showed.

The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) registered a total of 2,538 road crashes from January 1 to July 13 this year, higher than the 2, 477 cases reported in the same period a year ago.

Of the latest figure, 77 caused deaths, 864 lead to injuries and 1,597 resulted in damage to property.

Police Major Rolando Araño, IPPO spokesperson, identified reckless driving as the leading cause of road crashes in the province.

Common reckless driving behaviors included overspeeding, drunk driving, improper turning, unsafe overtaking, and failure to yield the right of way.

Araño also mentioned  mechanical troubles, poor road network and the absence of early warning devices as among the reasons of crashes.

To avoid road accidents, IPPO reminded motorists to be responsible, take it slow, and always check the vehicle first before traveling.

It also advised pedestrians be careful and mindful when crossing the street.IMT
