Tribu Salognon of Jaro National National High School was hailed as the grand champion of the Tribes Competition of this year’s Dinagyang Festival.
The tribe snatched the championship title from Tribu Paghidaet of La Paz National High School, which settled for first runner-up in the competition.
As the winner, Salognon took home P1.5 million in cash, P10 million worth of school infrastructure projects and a trophy.
The school-based tribe also clinched the Best in Musical Direction, Best in Choreography, and Best in Production Design awards.
The term “Salognon” came from the word “Salog”, the old name of Jaro. “Salognon” refers to anyone or anything from Salog
Meanwhile, Tribu Pan-ay of Fort San Pedro National High School and Tribu Taga-Baryo from Bo. Obrero, Lapuz were declared second runner-up and third runner-up, respectively.
Paghidaet, Pan-ay, and Taga Baryo received P1 million, P700,000 and P600,000, respectively.
Other competing tribes were Tribu Bulawanon sang Molo (Molo District), Tribu Ilonganon (Jalandoni Memorial National High School, and Tribu Ilayanhon (Graciano Lopez Jaena Elementary School).
