The Senate on Monday, March 9, passed on third and final reading Senate Bill No. 1743 which seeks to amend Republic Act No. 10699 to ensure para-athletes and their coaches receive incentives equal to other national athletes.
Under the current law, Olympic medalists receive P10 million for gold, P5 million for silver, and P2 million for bronze, while Paralympians only get half of those incentives.
“This measure aims to provide our athletes with disability to be recognized on equal footing with other national athletes,” said Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Sports.
The bill also proposes full tax exemption on incentives and rewards received by athletes and coaches, and allows donations for training and competition to be tax-deductible and exempt from donor’s tax.IMT
