The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, chaired by Senator Rodante Marcoleta, will open its investigation into anomalous flood control projects on August 19.

Marcoleta admitted the probe will be challenging given the scale of the multi-billion projects and the web of corruption involved. But he said it can be accomplished with cooperation from resource persons and the public.

The senator said the inquiry will not only examine contractors but also public officials profiting from substandard projects, which leave communities vulnerable to flooding.

He urged contractors to reveal how much they pay officials to avoid carrying the blame alone. “Sabihin n’yo kung magkano binibigay n’yo sa mga taong gobyerno para hindi kayo ang madidikdik d’yan. O yan lang muna ang aking masasabi.”

Marcoleta also appealed to citizens to share reliable information, documents, or photos with his office, while stressing the need to vet reports to avoid false or AI-generated data.

The organizational meeting and first public hearing of the Senate Committee on Accountability of Public Officers and Investigation will be held Tuesday, 10 a.m., at the Senate session hall.IMT
