Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 has been hoisted over the central and northern portions of Iloilo as Severe Tropical Storm Tino further intensifies.

The central portion includes Calinog, New Lucena, Maasin, Pavia, Dueñas, Leganes, Dingle, Zarraga, Bingawan, Cabatuan, Alimodian, Dumangas, Passi City, Pototan, Lambunao, Janiuay, Santa Barbara, Oton San Miguel, Mina, Cabatuan, and Iloilo City.

Those in the northern portion are Estancia, Batad, Concepcion, Balasan, Barotac Nuevo, Ajuy, Banate, Lemery, Anilao, San Dionisio,  Barotac Viejo, Carles, San Rafael, San Enrique, and Badiangan.

TCWS No. 1 indicates winds of between 39 to 61 kilometer per hour (kph) within the next 36 hours, which pose minimal to minor threat to life and property. 

PAGASA said Tino, as of 10 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2, was last spotted 605 kilometer (km) east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

It was moving westward at 30 kph with maximum sustained winds of 100 kph near the center, gustiness of up to 125 kph, and central pressure of 985 hPa.

Tino is expected to make its initial landfall over Eastern Samar, Leyte, or Dinagat Islands Monday night, Nov. 3 or early Tuesday morning, Nov. 4.

“Afterwards, TINO will traverse Visayas and northern Palawan before emerging over the West Philippine Sea on Wednesday morning (Nov. 5),” said PAGASA.

Classes in the province and city of Iloilo were suspended on Monday in preparation for the effects of the severe tropical storm.IMT
