Iloilo Third District Representative Lorenz “Nonoy” Defensor has criticized the pronouncement of Vice President Sara Duterte that she wants a bloodbath in her looming impeachment trial.

According to the Ilonggo lawmaker, Duterte’s remark sets a poor example for young Filipinos and has no place in government discourse.

“Saying that she wants a bloodbath, that attitude has no place in government,” said Defensor, who will serve as one of the House prosecutors in the trial.

“It’s a terrible example to the youth who are watching her. And many Filipinos look up to her, idolize her. That’s a terrible example,” he further said.

Defensor stressed that the impeachment process is about truth, accountability, and due process.

“It’s better to say this impeachment trial is a ‘winner-takes-all’ process. It doesn’t have to be a bloodbath. What we want is for both the prosecution and defense to clearly present their evidence,” he said.

“I want to see the Vice President ready—so that if she were acquitted, the public and the 215 House members who signed the complaint can accept it,” Defensor added.

Duterte was impeached by the House of Representatives last February for “betrayal of public trust, culpable violation of the Constitution, and graft and corruption.”IMT
