Face-to-face classes at all levels in public and private schools in Iloilo City are suspended today, March 23, due to a “transport holiday” amid skyrocketing fuel costs.

The suspension was ordered by City Mayor Raisa Treñas through Executive Order (EO) No. 034 “in view of the large volume of participants in the planned strike.

“In lieu of the suspension of face-to-face classes, respective school heads are directed to observe an alternative delivery mode of instruction,” the EO stated.

“The suspension of work shall be left to the discretion of the respective heads of government agencies and the sound business judgement of the private business owners,” it further stated.

Transport cooperatives in the city and province of Iloilo will join the nationwide strike to protest the rising cost of fuel.

More than a thousand public utility vehicles (PUV) are expected to temporarily suspended their operations, “which shall cause great difficulty for the riding public.”IMT
