Mayor Raisa Treñas has set a 2026 target to have all 180 barangays in Iloilo City declared cleared of illegal drugs.
Treñas said that last year, under the leadership of then Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) director Police Colonel Kim Legada, 17 barangays were initially declared drug-cleared.
Continued law enforcement operations raised the total number to 113 drug-cleared barangays, leaving 67 barangays still under monitoring.
The mayor emphasized that sustained police operations demonstrate the city government’s firm stance against illegal drugs, stressing that authorities have not relaxed enforcement despite gains made.
“Illegal drugs cause serious harm to communities, especially to the youth. This is why we are intensifying our efforts to make Iloilo City drug-free,” Treñas said.
During a flag-raising ceremony at City Hall, the city government recognized the Iloilo City Police Office, Police Stations 10 and 4, and the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) for their strong performance in the anti-drug campaign.
City officials expressed confidence that continued coordination between local authorities and law enforcement will enable Iloilo City to reach its goal of 100 percent drug-cleared barangays by 2026.IMT
