Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Treñas has ordered the construction of an alternate access road for residents of Barangay Buhang Taft North, Mandurriao, after the Iloilo Scholastic Academy (ISA) fenced off a passage that had long served as the community’s only route to the main road.
Though the disputed path lies on private property, Treñas immediately mobilized the City Engineer’s Office to fill, level, and improve an alternative route so residents would not be forced to wade through mud or unsafe pathways.
“This is a huge help to the community who depended on that road for years,” said Barangay Kagawad Willie Samoro, noting that the new passage eases the burden on over 200 residents and 85 households who were directly affected by the closure.
Residents have since expressed gratitude for what they described as a swift and decisive response from the city government, citing the strong coordination between the barangay and City Hall.
ISA began fencing its property in September, asserting ownership of the land and limiting access for locals. But with the city government’s intervention, affected families behind Park Inn by Radisson now have a clear, safer alternate route connecting them to the main road.IMT
