Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Treñas has called out the Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) leadership for failing to deliver accountable and reliable water service, warning that Ilonggos deserve nothing less than transparency and responsibility from the agency.

In a meeting with MIWD general manager Alfred Tayo III and members of the Board of Directors — Chairperson Rebecca L. Maravilla, Jeanette T. Lloyd, Engr. Terence S. Uygongco, and Corporate Secretary Atty. Aloysius Pacelli C. Dela Cruz — Treñas questioned why the utility is only now initiating projects despite having had the entire pandemic period to plan.

“Why only now? They had years during the pandemic to prepare. Ilonggos should not be paying the price for poor planning,” the mayor said.

Treñas also lashed at MIWD for pipe upgrading works done without coordination with the city government, stressing that such projects caused public inconvenience. She made it clear: “No major road works should be done during daytime on vital thoroughfares.”

The mayor reminded the MIWD Board that they are managing a public utility, which requires full accountability and transparency.

“As your mayor, I will make sure the concerns of our people are heard. Essential service providers must be held accountable. Our people deserve no less,” Treñas declared.IMT
