Senator Erwin Tulfo has filed a bill seeking lifetime validity for Persons with Disability (PWD) identification cards.
Under Senate Bill No. 1405, which amends the Magna Carta for Persons with Disability (RA 7277), PWD IDs will be issued free of charge and remain valid for life.
Tulfo said renewing PWD IDs adds unnecessary hardship to those already facing daily challenges.
“Once their ID expires, they need to line up again to get their requirements, and they need money for transport fares. They need to yet again allot time, energy, and resources just to renew their IDs, despite their disability. It is like adding insult to injury!” he also said.
The senator stressed that the IDs are essential for PWDs to access benefits such as 20% discounts, and that removing expiration dates would ensure continuous access to their rights.IMT
