Senator Erwin Tulfo filed Senate Resolution No. 186 urging a Senate inquiry into the implementation of PWD laws, citing persistent failures in accessibility despite existing protections.

The resolution seeks oversight on Batas Pambansa Blg. 344 or the Accessibility Law, and Republic Act No. 7277 or the Magna Carta for Persons with Disabilities, as many buildings and transport systems remain unsafe and unfriendly to PWDs.

Tulfo stressed that building permits and government projects should not be approved if they lack mandatory accessibility features, noting steep footbridges and inaccessible public transport as common problems.

He also renewed calls for lifetime validity of PWD IDs for those with permanent disabilities to spare beneficiaries from costly renewals, and pushed for depoliticized registration and a centralized PWD database to ensure aid reaches rightful recipients.

“How can we expect our PWDs to reach their full potential if our very systems are rigged against them?”IMT
