Senator Mark Villar has filed Senate Resolution No. 313 calling for an urgent inquiry into the rising cases of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) in the Philippines, particularly among young people.

Citing data from the Department of Health, Villar said CKD is affecting younger Filipinos, with reports of children as young as nine suffering from severe kidney illness. He warned of a looming public health crisis.

Villar said that while measures are in place to address CKD, gaps remain.

He noted that the spread of ultra processed foods and changing diets require updated and preventive strategies.

The senator wants a review of current government programs, from awareness campaigns to support for patients undergoing treatment.

“We would like to be more proactive in preventing and detecting the disease while fully supporting those who are undergoing treatments,” said Villar.IMT
