The taekwondo teams in Western Visayas are unstoppable in the international scene, bagging numerous medals in the Taekwondo Grand Slam Youth League–Singapore 2025 at D’Marquee, Pasir Ris Close.

Representing the country, Jeany M. Torreflores and D’harrene P. Orallo took gold medals, alongside silver and bronze finishes from Karla and Gwyneth Andaya, Jenella Tionko, and Enzo Cape in the Poomsae event.

Alyana Tionko, Torreflores, and Andaya captured another gold in the mixed and team poomsae events.

In kyorugi, gold medalists were Orallo, Karla Andaya, Cape, Zack Lacanaria, Trevor Castro, Chris Sanchez, Mary Bernadette Algarja, Nathaniel Somolostro, and Venice Dayne Donoso, while other athletes earned bronze medals. In kyukpa, Masters Jojo Castro and Ryan Tachado led the delegation, with Castro winning gold and Tachado silver, along with student champions.

For Alyanah, participating in Singapore taekwondo grand slam youth league is such a huge blessing and opportunity for her to represent her school and the country.

“To be able to show my capabilities and to win three medals is truly unforgettable. It is truly a dream come true, I manage to give pride to my family, my school, and of course to our country. I will continue to work hard and push myself to achieve new heights and greater success in this sport,” she added.

Jenella, on the other hand, said she’s truly grateful for the opportunity to participate in the Taekwondo Grand Slam Youth League in Singapore. Winning one gold and two silver medals is a blessing that reflects her dedication, perseverance, and love for the sport.

“This experience has taught me humility, discipline, and the value of hard work. I am thankful for the support  and encouragement of my coaches sir Mark, sir Mel, sir Diego, and ma’am Jilyn. They helped me achieve this milestone with grace. I am also thanking sir JoJo Castro and the University of San Agustin for giving me the opportunity to represent not just my school but also our country,” she narrated.

Zen Tionko, mother of Alynah and Jenella, it was an honor and great pride that her girls have been blessed to participate and be part of Philippines delegation in the Taekwondo Grand Slam Youth League held in Singapore. Given the opportunity to showcase their talents overseas and manage to bring home numerous medals is truly a dream come true for them.

“Big thanks to their school – University of San Agustin, for the understanding and allowing our girls the chance to experience such prestigious event abroad. Love and gratitude to their coaches Sir Jojo Castro, Sir Mark V. Pinggol and Sir Ryan Tachado for their unwavering support and commitment for these young lass.
