The Police Regional Office (PRO-6) is tightening security measures across Western Visayas in anticipation of the upcoming summer travel surge, officially rolling out its Ligtas SUMVAC 2026 campaign.

Running from March 29 to May 31, the initiative aims to ensure the safety of the public as millions are expected to travel for Holy Week, Philippine Veterans Week, Labor Day, Flores de Mayo, and various local fiestas.

The PRO-6, in collaboration with local government units (LGUs) and other law enforcement agencies, will deploy personnel to high-traffic areas to manage the expected influx of travelers,

Strategic deployments will cover churches, seaports, airports, major highways, and popular tourist destinations.

Authorities will also establish police assistance desks across the region to provide immediate aid to travelers.

Security operations will feature intensified patrols, checkpoints, and intelligence monitoring to deter criminal activity.

Furthermore, the Regional Highway Patrol Unit (RHPU-6) will conduct rigorous inspections at public transport hubs and deploy road safety marshals.

PRO-6 director Police Brigadier General Josefino D. Ligan urged residents to remain vigilant, strictly follow traffic rules, and secure their homes before embarking on their trips.

“We want the public to travel and celebrate with confidence. Our personnel are fully prepared to respond to any situation to ensure everyone’s safety and security during the summer vacation and Holy Week,” he said.

“With vigilance and cooperation from the community, we can ensure a peaceful and worry-free holiday for all,” Ligan stressed.IMT
