Nineteen candidates are seeking a seat on the Supreme Court (SC) that will be vacated by Associate Justice Amy C. Lazaro-Javier upon her compulsory retirement on Nov. 16.

The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) will interview eight candidates on Oct. 13 and 15, while the previous interviews of the other 11 applicants will remain valid.

Those scheduled for interview on Oct. 13 are Bureau of Immigration’s Aldwin Flora Alegre, Legal Education Board’s Jason Rueda Barlis, Sandiganbayan Presiding Justice Geraldine Faith Econg and Court of Appeals Associate Justice Lily Villareal Biton.

On Oct. 15, the JBC will interview Commission on Audit’s Gamaliel Asis Cordoba, Office of the Government Corporate Counsel’s Solomon Mateo Hermosura, German Lichauco II and Commission on Elections’ Ernesto Perez Maceda Jr.

The other candidates are Court of Appeals Presiding Justice Fernanda Lampas Peralta, Solicitor General Darlene Marie Berberabe, and CA Associate Justices Nina Geluz Antonio-Valenzuela, Ramon Mariño Bato Jr., Ramon Alcala Cruz, Maria Elisa Sempio Diy, Myra Virtucio Garcia-Fernandez, Rolando Roberto B. Martin and Walter S. Ong.

Also in the running are Sandiganbayan Associate Justice Karl B. Miranda and Court of Tax Appeals Associate Justice Maria Rowena M. San Pedro.

The JBC is accepting sworn complaints, reports and oppositions against any of the candidates until 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 19.IMT
