The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) is taking proactive steps to curb the proliferation of unregistered or loose firearms by hosting a two-day License to Own and Possess Firearms (LTOPF) Caravan.
The initiative urges gun owners to legalize their firearms through a streamlined application process.
The caravan is scheduled for May 7–8, 2026, from 8:00 a.m to 5:00 a.m at the Conference Hall of the Nutrition Center, located directly across from the ICPO Headquarters at Camp Achilles D. Plagata.
In collaboration with the Iloilo City Government and the Regional Civil Security Unit 6 (RCSU-6), the ICPO is implementing a “one-stop-shop” system.
This setup aims to eliminate the logistical hurdles typically associated with licensing by offering essential services on-site, including Neuro-psychiatric examinations and drug testing.
The caravan is open to the general public, City Hall employees, and barangay officials on a first-come, first-served basis.
Applicants are reminded to bring initial requirements, such as a PSA Birth Certificate and, for government personnel, an Oath of Office.
During a press conference on Monday, May 4, ICPO director Police Colonel Parilla underscored that the caravan is a vital component of the city’s broader safety strategy.
“We encourage all firearm holders to take advantage of this opportunity to legalize their firearms. This initiative is part of our continuing effort to reduce loose firearms and strengthen public safety,” he said.
“Let us work together—because safety is everyone’s responsibility,” Padilla added.
The push for legalization comes on the heels of a successful month for the ICPO.
Last month, the ICPO conducted 43 operations resulting in the recovery of 44 firearms.
Of the recoveries, 16 were voluntarily surrendered, 22 were deposited for safekeeping, and six were confiscated.
The operations also led to the arrest of five individuals and the recovery of three explosives.IMT
