At least 205 thousand students have so far enrolled in schools across the province of Iloilo, according to the Department of Education (DepEd).

The figure is less than 50 percent of the Schools Division of Iloilo’s target enrollment of more than 450 learners for School Year (SY) 2020-2021.

The June 25 data from DepEd showed that there are 11,683 enrollees in Kindergarten; 86,154 in Grades 1-6 (elementary), 72,090 in Grades 7-10 (junior high school); and 32,631 in Grades 11-12 (senior high school).

The education department also registered 2,518 learners under the Alternative Learning System (ALS) program.

The dropbox and online enrollment system started on June 1 and will end on June 30.

Schools Division Superintendent Roel Bermejo said they are confident that their target will be attained.

The opening of classes for SY 2020-2021 was moved to August 24, 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

Bermejo reiterated that there is no enrollment fee or any payment to be collected.IMT
