A crackdown on unregistered weapons by the Police Regional Office (PRO6) has yielded massive results, with 64 firearms taken off the streets of Western Visayas in just a single day.

Of the 62 firearms accounted for, 62 were voluntarily surrendered by citizens and two others were confiscated during police operations.

Local authorities conducted 68 separate operations against loose firearms between 6:00 a.m. on August 22 and 5:59 AM on August 23.

Alongside the recovered firearms, police also seized six explosive devices and arrested two individuals.

The swift haul is credited to the ongoing rollout of Project RTT (Restrict, Track, and Turn-In).

The initiative is designed to tighten firearm accounting, track down undocumented weapons, and encourage residents to peacefully surrender unlicensed guns before they can be used in illicit activities.

Police Brigadier General Randulf T. Tuaño, PRO-6 regional director, highlighted that public cooperation was the driving force behind the 24-hour success.

“Securing 62 loose firearms in just 24 hours is a clear testament to the effectiveness of Project RTT and the community’s active participation in our campaign,” he said.

“By restricting, tracking, and facilitating the turn-in of these weapons, we are pulling potential instruments of crime off the streets and protecting public safety,” Tuaño added.

The PRO-6 appealed to the public to  to support the initiative by reporting any information regarding the illegal possession, carrying, or use of firearms to their nearest police station.IMT
