Three Ilonggo seafarers have been safely repatriated after surviving a Russian drone attack on their cargo vessel.
The affected overseas Filipino workers arrived at the Iloilo International Airport in Cabatuan on Wednesday, Aug. 5.
“We are happy to inform that at last our three seafarers affected by the drone attack are finally home,” said Public Employment Service Office (PESO-Iloilo) head Dr. Cynthia Dario.
The repatriated seafarers are residents of the towns of Dingle and Miagao, and Barangay Ortiz in Iloilo City.
After landing at the airport, the three went to the Iloilo Provincial Capitol to thank the provincial government for helping facilitate their repatriation. They were welcomed by Provincial Administrator Raul Banias.
According to one of the seafarers, their vessel, M/V Inase, was attacked while sailing off Odesa, Ukraine, on July 18.
“Sang time nga pag-ataki ka drone, ga pasaka gid ko tu sa may babaw (bridge of the ship),” he shared.
“Pag bomba pa lang, buo na dayon amon desisyon nga magpuli,” the seafarer added.
The provincial government vowed to provide psychosocial intervention and financial assistance to the distressed seafarers. IMT
