![A total of 89 Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) cadets participating in a summer camp in Dingle, Iloilo, were hospitlaized on Wednesday evening, June 17, due to alleged food poisoning.
Most of the cadets had stomachache while some suffered vomiting after they ate pork adobo and rice for dinner, according to Colonel Edralin Poblete of 6th Regional Community Defense Group.
Seventy-four cadets were taken to the Iloilo Provicnial Hospital in Pototan, 10 toDon Jose S. Monfort Medical Center in Barotac Nuevo and five to Ramon D. Duremdes District Hospital in Dumangas.
In a radio interview, Poblete said all the affected cadets are now in "stable condition" and receiving proper medical care.
The 14-day summer camp at Camp General Adriano D. Hernandez has more than 900 participants coming from different universities and colleges in Western Visayas, including Negros Occidental.
According to Poblete, they hired a local cook and helpers to prepare meals for the participants.
"Meron kaming binabayaran na nagpeprepare ng pagkain nila under the supervision of their organaic personnel," he said.
"Since limited and space, by batch po ang [pagserve ng pagkain]. So ito 'yung first batch na nakakain.
