The Sangguniang Panlungsod has passed a resolution mandating the installation of closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras in Iloilo City’s 180 barangays.

The resolution, authored by Liga ng mga Barangay Iloilo City chapter president Irene Ong, aims to help deter crimes and arrest the criminals.

Ong said barangay officials should include the budget for the purchase of high-definition CCTV cameras in their development plan for 2025 since they have already completed their budget plan for 2024.

“The non-compliance of this resolution to include the budget allocation in the 2025 development plan shall warrant the non-approval of the said development plan,” the resolution stated.

The measure is aligned with Memorandum Circular Department of Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) Memorandum Circular 2022-060, which urged local government units (LGUs) to enact ordinances that require business establishments to install CCTV cameras before they can be issued permits to operate.IMT
