Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano defended the Majority bloc’s move to vote on whether the Senate could take up a proposal allowing remote participation in sessions.
Cayetano clarified that senators were only voting on the procedural issue and not yet on the substance of Sen. Rodante Marcoleta’s proposal.
“We are not discussing the merits yet of the amendment,” Cayetano said.
Tensions rose after Sens. Ping Lacson and Francis Pangilinan questioned the move, eventually leading to a walkout by the minority bloc.
Cayetano maintained that the plenary had the authority to settle procedural questions through voting.IMT
