Defense and security, maritime cooperation, energy, and economic ties are among the key issues expected to be discussed during President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi this week.
Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos left for Japan Tuesday, May 26, for the President’s first State Visit from May 26 to 29.
According to the DFA, the two leaders are expected to tackle cooperation on security, defense, economy, energy resilience, and regional concerns involving the Indo-Pacific and the Middle East.
New agreements involving defense, trade, investment, and human resources are also expected to be announced.
Marcos Jr. is likewise scheduled to meet Japanese business groups and members of the Filipino community in Japan.
The visit comes as the Philippines and Japan mark 70 years of diplomatic relations.IMT
