The Iloilo Provincial Government is seeking financial backing from the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) for the construction of a “world-class” convention and events facility in the province.

Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. personally met with Mark Lapid, chief operating officer of the Department of Tourism-attached TIEZA, to present the proposed facility.

Defensor said the facility is envisioned to host national and international events, further strengthening Iloilo’s position as a premier venue for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE).

The structure is being eyed by the provincial government to be a major feature of the Smart Green Government Center, one of Defensor’s flagship infrastructure projects.

The multimillion-peso government center is currently being built in the town of Santa Barbara, a strategic location serving as the gateway to Iloilo City and situated near the Iloilo International Airport.

Defensor was joined by Provincial Tourism Officer Aulynn Yue Sin, Acting Provincial Engineer Jeb Escarilla, Acting Provincial Planning and Development Office head Mary Rose Matucan, Public Information and Community Affairs Office chief Jose Nereo Lujan, and Head Executive Assistant to the Governor Atty. Ruel Von Superio during his meeting with Lapid.IMT
