Defensor still undecided whether to support BSKE postponement

Iloilo Third District Representative Lorenz Defensor has yet to decide whether he will support the postponement of the 2026 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

In a media interview, Defensor said he is still assessing key considerations before making a final decision regarding proposals to reset the BSKE from November 2 this year to the same month in 2028.

“I will wait for the committee report kon ano ang justification nila kon indi pagdayunon kag dira ako masabat kon ano ang maayo sa aton,” the congressman told reporters.

According to Defensor, House bills postponing this year’s BSKE are currently pending at the committee level. 

“Indi ko lang mahambal kon maaprubahan ini sa [House] kag sa Senate. Sa subong nga wala pa naapruban ang bills, ang sabat ko permi: ‘As of today, madayon,'” he said.

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) earlier said that some P8 billion had already been spent for BSKE preparations.

“Kanugon ini kon indi malang madayon, kag nag-uyang kita sang P8 billion,” Defensor said. IMT
