Former president Rodrigo Duterte was taken into police custody Tuesday morning, March 11, upon his arrival from Hong Kong, after the Palace confirmed receiving an International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant.
The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) Manila received the warrant before dawn, and the Prosecutor General served it at Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
Duterte, in good health according to government doctors, is under police custody.
“Ang dating Pangulo at ang kanyang grupo ay nasa mabuting kalusugan at sinuri ng mga doctor ng gobyerno. Sinigurado na siya ay nasa maayos na kalagayan,” according to PCO.
It also noted that police officers executing the warrant wore body cameras.
Duterte was arrested for alleged crimes against humanity.IMT
