The death toll from dengue across the province of Iloilo has climbed to 21, according to the Provincial Health Office (PHO).

Data from the PHO’s 41st Morbidity Week report, covering January 4 to October 17, showed that the municipality of Estancia recorded the highest number of fatalities with eight.

Carles came in second with five deaths, followed by Ajuy with two.

Single deaths were reported in San Dionisio, Sara, Miagao, San Rafael, Dingle, and San Joaquin.

Despite the fatalities, the PHO noted a downward trend in overall infections.

A total of 4,552 dengue cases were logged during the period—an 11 percent decrease from the 5,102 cases recorded during the same timeframe last year.

The PHO urged local government units to strictly implement the Department of Health’s 4S strategy.

The public was also reminded to prioritize the search and destroy of mosquito breeding sites and to seek early medical consultation at the first sign of symptoms.IMT
