The town of Estancia has recorded the highest number of dengue cases in Iloilo province, reporting 493 total infections—a sharp 379 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
Data from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) 41st Morbidity Week report, which covers Jan. 4 to Oct. 17, showed that 33 of Estancia’s total cases were newly recorded.
Carles logged the second highest tally in the province with 351 cases, representing a 154 percent increase from the previous year.
Calinog ranked third with 267 cases, up by 70 percent.
Other towns reporting significant dengue numbers include Dumangas with 231 cases, Cabatuan with 230, Passi City with 225, Ajuy with 172, Balasan with 160, Concepcion with 149, Lambunao with 142, and Tigbauan with 141.
To address the rising dengue cases, the PHO called on local governments and residents to follow the “4S” strategy.
According to the Department of Health (DOH), the 4S strategy involves searching and destroying mosquito breeding places; securing self-protection; seeking early consultation; and supporting fogging and spraying in hotspot places.IMT
