A former mayor, his wife and two children were among the respondents in the criminal complaints filed by the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) in connection with the killing of businesswoman Claire Diergos.

In its report on Friday, Jan. 7, radio station RMN-Iloilo mentioned Peter Paul Lopez, ex-mayor of San Dionisio, Iloilo, his wife Saliha “Sally” Lopez, and sons Feliz Paul Lopez and Carlos Paul “Popoy” Lopez as among the accused.

These personalities, according to the report, were identified by witnesses in Diergos’ killing that took place in October last year.

The witnesses, based on their sworn statements obtained by the radio station, “personally saw” the four alighted from a sports utility vehicle (SUV) where Diergos was found lifeless.

The vehicle was abandoned in Barangay Inangayan, Sta. Barbara, Iloilo.

When sought for his reaction, Peter Paul, in a text message sent to RMN-Iloilo, said: “Wala man ko may nabaton nga subpoena. May copy kamo sang case nga ina.”

The IPPO filed the complaints on Wednesday, Jan. 5, but they did not disclose the names of the respondents.

According to IPPO Director Colonel Gilbert Gorero, they cannot divulge the names because the respondents are still considered innocent.

“The case is not yet filed in court and under the disposition of prosecuting fiscal.”

In a report by Bombo Radyo-Iloilo, IPPO‘s Special Investigation Team (SIT) said the motive of the killing was “jealousy.”

SIT refused to further elaborate.IMT
