Senator Sherwin Gatchalian urged the Social Security System (SSS) and the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) to offer loan programs for members who want to buy electric vehicles (EVs) amid soaring fuel prices.

According to Gatchalian, many Filipinos want to switch to EVs but are discouraged by the high cost. He said EV loan facilities could help ease the burden of rising gasoline and diesel prices.

The senator added that faster adoption of EVs would also reduce the country’s dependence on imported fuel.

Gatchalian also pushed for more charging stations nationwide to encourage more consumers and organizations to shift to EVs.

He likewise urged the government to speed up the transition of public utility vehicles to EVs under the modernization program to protect drivers and operators from unstable fuel prices.IMT
