The Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN) Panay is pushing for a P250 increase in the daily minimum wage of private-sector workers in Western Visayas, citing rising prices of basic goods, services and transportation.
BAYAN Panay Secretary General Elmer Forro, in a radio interview, said the current P550 daily minimum wage is no longer enough to meet workers’ needs amid increasing living costs.
The group is seeking to raise the daily minimum wage to P800 to help workers cope with inflation and the declining purchasing power of the peso, according to Forro.
He said the proposed increase is intended to address the widening gap between workers’ wages and the cost of living.
BAYAN Panay will present its proposal during a public hearing of the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB-6).IMT
