Mayor Jerry Treñas urged all qualified City Hall employees to apply for the socialized housing units through the low-rise housing project of the SM Development Corporation (SMDC) and the city government.

“If all requirements are in, we will have a raffle for the 120 lucky beneficiaries after the flag ceremony next week,” Treñas said on Monday, Feb. 28.

SMDC will construct Uswag Residential Building Complex in Barangay San Isidro as its compliance to the socialized housing requirement.  The construction is scheduled to start this March.

According to Treñas, qualified employees are those on Salary Grade 8 and below and do not own a real property (house). They must also have at least five years of service as regular employee by December 31, 2021 wherein services as job hire is included.

Iloilo City Urban Poor Affairs Office (Icupao) head Roy Firmeza earlier said that the in-house contractor of SMDC has started delivering aggregate materials that followed after the partial closure of the property, only front side vacant lot left for the delivery of materials.

“This is in partnership with SM Prime Holdings and its construction division SM Development Corporation. The project has P247-million budget where P217-million is allotted for the residential building while the P30-million is for the site development. The budget came from the 15% of the housing balance compliance of SMDC nationwide,” he shared.

Expected to be completed after one year and a half, the 30-sqm condo unit in two twin four-storey back-to-back Uswag Low Rise Residential Building will rise in 2,741-sqm area.

Firmeza said the project is a pro-active approach of the city government in response to scarcity of land due to fast development resulting to physical and spatial changes.IMT
