The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) has launched a full investigation into a hit-and-run incident in La Paz district that ended in a police shooting early Sunday, Oct. 11.

According to ICPO Director Colonel Wilbert Parilla, personnel from Iloilo City Police Station 2 (ICPS 2) responded to a 911 dispatch at around 1:00 a.m. regarding a black Honda Accord sedan that allegedly struck a sari-sari store and a parked motorcycle with a sidecar in Zone 1, Barangay Baldoza.

The driver—identified as 29-year-old alias “Pao,” a resident of Barangay Buhang, Jaro— reportedly fled toward Barangay La Granja before being cornered by pursuing officers in Barangay Caingin.

During the interception, the suspect allegedly attempted to run over the responding personnel, prompting police to fire at the vehicle.

The driver sustained injuries during the encounter and was transported to Saint Paul’s Hospital for emergency treatment.

Parilla, who personally inspected the scene in Barangay Caingin to oversee initial operations, pledged an objective investigation into both the hit-and-run and the tactical response of the police officers involved.

“We appeal to the public to remain calm and refrain from jumping to conclusions as we determine the facts surrounding this incident,” Parilla said.

“We respect the process and will ensure that all circumstances are thoroughly investigated, with accountability and due process upheld,” he added.

The ICPO affirmed that further legal and administrative measures will be taken based on official findings in compliance with Philippine National Police (PNP) protocols.IMT
