Iloilo City is a finalist in five categories of the 2026 Pearl Awards, strengthening its bid to position itself as a destination for tourism and local and international events.
The awards, given by the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP) and the Department of Tourism, recognize local government units for achievements and innovations in tourism.
The city was named a finalist in the highly urbanized city category for Best Tourism Souvenirs (Non-Food), Best Tourism Event (Cultural Festival), Best Event Hosting (Local), Best Event Hosting (International) and Best Tourism Promotions (Brochure).
City Tourism and Development Officer Junel Ann Divinagracia, who is also the immediate past president of ATOP, said the nominations reflect the city’s efforts to strengthen its tourism industry.
“From our homegrown souvenirs and vibrant festivals, to our capacity to host local and international events and our continuing efforts to tell the Iloilo story through destination marketing—each nomination represents the hard work of our tourism stakeholders, creatives, communities, partners, organizers, and the entire Ilonggo community,” she said in a statement Wednesday, Sept. 9.
Divinagracia said the nominations also highlight Iloilo City’s development as a destination beyond leisure tourism.
“Whatever the final results may be, Iloilo City has already made its mark on the national tourism stage,” she said.
The judging period runs through Friday.
Mayor Raisa Treñas said Tuesday that Iloilo City’s entries are among 201 finalists selected from 606 entries nationwide.
She said the recognition comes as the city seeks to host MICECon 2027, the country’s major meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions industry event.
“Our finalist spots in tourism, event hosting, cultural festivals and promotions show what Iloilo can offer as a destination not only for tourists, but also as a venue for local and international events,” Treñas said.
She credited the city’s MICE team, tourism partners, creatives, organizers and residents for helping strengthen Iloilo’s position as a tourism and events destination.PNA
