The Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO) has advised the public to take necessary precautions against extreme heat driven by a “very strong” El Niño phenomenon.

To minimize health risks, the IPHO advised residents — especially those who work outdoors — to stay hydrated with safe drinking water and limit direct sun exposure during peak hours.

The public was also urged to wear light, comfortable clothing and watch for symptoms of heat-related illnesses, including dizziness, headaches, body weakness, and vomiting.

Amid potential water supply shortages, the IPHO stressed the importance of conserving water while ensuring adequate supply for drinking, cooking, handwashing, and hygiene.

Water storage containers must be cleaned and covered to prevent contamination and halt mosquito breeding to curb dengue.

The advisory forms part of the IPHO’s public health preparedness, prevention, and mitigation plan aimed at curbing risks such as dehydration, heat illness, diarrhea, and malnutrition.IMT
