Cleaner surroundings, safer streets, and improved flood resilience have become key gains under Mayor Raisa S. Treñas’ first year in office through the KaLimpyo and Hapsay Kuryente programs, both implemented under the Rising Livability pillar of the city’s Rise-To-Action governance framework.
Implemented by the Office of the Facility Conservation Officer (OFCO) since July 2025, KaLimpyo strengthens the city’s flood mitigation efforts by promoting responsible waste management and improving drainage systems to reduce the impacts of climate change.
During its first year, the program completed 421 declogging operations and drainage maintenance activities across various barangays, helping keep waterways clear, improve sewage flow, and lessen the risk of flooding, especially during heavy rains.
Aside from declogging drainage systems, the OFCO also carried out repair and repainting works on various city government facilities, including footbridges, pedestrian lanes, and government buildings.
Meanwhile, in partnership with the Public Utility Group of Iloilo (PUGI), the OFCO implemented Hapsay Kuryente, a citywide initiative that promotes safer and more orderly communities by clearing, repairing, and removing hazardous or abandoned utility wires from electrical posts.
The program conducts regular inspections and maintenance of utility lines, removes dangling wires that pose risks of accidents and fire, and organizes overhead cables to create cleaner and more orderly streets.
From July 2025 to June 2026, a total of 523 post and utility line operations were carried out, benefiting all 180 barangays in Iloilo City.
Through KaLimpyo and Hapsay Kuryente, the Iloilo City Government continues to invest in practical, preventive measures that improve everyday life for Ilonggos while strengthening the city’s resilience against the challenges of rapid urbanization and climate change.
