What was supposed to be a routine session of the Iloilo City Council turned into a test of patience Wednesday morning, Nov. 12, after faulty microphones and a dripping air conditioner caused an unexpected stir inside the session hall.
All podium microphones malfunctioned mid-session, forcing councilors to share a single wireless mic to continue their discussions.
But the bigger distraction came when water from a leaking air conditioner dripped directly onto the documents being read by Councilor Frances Grace Parcon-Torres.
Vice Mayor Lady Julie Grace Baronda told reporters from the Iloilo City Hall Press Corps that she would ask the contractor to replace the defective microphones.
She emphasized the importance of clear audio during sessions so that stenographers can accurately record councilors’ statements for the official minutes.
Baronda also confirmed that complaints about the leaking air-conditioning unit and ceiling have been raised several times, noting that the contractor had already replaced the system at least three times.
Reports of similar leaks have also surfaced in other offices within the legislative building, raising concerns about the overall quality of maintenance and repairs.IMT
