The Land Transportation Office (LTO-6) has apprehended 188 colorum vehicles since January this year as part of its intensified campaign against unauthorized public transport operations in the region.
The latest apprehension was recorded on September 22 when the LTO-6 Regional Law Enforcement Section, led by Chief Jetster T. Mandadero, flagged down a sedan during a roadside inspection along the Circumferential Road in Barangay Buhang, Jaro, Iloilo City.
The vehicle was reportedly traveling from Antique to a hotel in Jaro when it was stopped by the LTO-6 law enforcement team.
Authorities discovered that the sedan had been rented out for P1,200 per day, or P8,400 for a week, and was being used to transport passengers without the required authority.
LTO-6 Regional Director Atty. Gaudioso P. Geduspan II reminded car rental operators to secure the necessary franchise from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) before using their vehicles to transport passengers.
Geduspan warned that operators who fail to comply with the requirements may face heavy penalties, including the possible impounding of their vehicles.
