Local government units (LGUs) can now get funding for certain disaster rehabilitation projects faster, with the Marcos administration cutting processing time from as long as 11 months to four to six months.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced the shorter processing period during Thursday’s (Nov. 5) turnover of disaster assistance funds at Malacañan Palace.
The government has approved P8.6 billion for 306 local government units affected by disasters from 2024 to 2026.
More than P6 billion has already been released, while another P2.5 billion has been approved for downloading to local governments.
The funds will cover repairs to roads, bridges, schools, public buildings and evacuation centers, as well as housing, healthcare, agriculture and fisheries recovery.
Marcos Jr. said local governments were in a better position to identify which projects their communities needed most.
The President also called on local officials to submit timely damage reports so national agencies could determine the assistance required.
“Today, we mark another milestone in our relentless effort to partner with local government units in bringing government services and projects closer to every Filipino home and every Filipino family,” he said.IMT
