President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said he is looking forward to the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Manila in November as the Philippines and India move to deepen economic and strategic cooperation.
In a post-visit statement after attending the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, Marcos Jr. thanked Modi and the Indian government for their hospitality.
Discussions with India opened new opportunities in science and technology, artificial intelligence, digital payments, health, railways, creative industries, and space cooperation, according to him.
Marcos Jr. and Modi also discussed regional security, economic cooperation, and ways to address common challenges in the Indo-Pacific region.
The President said the Philippines’ decision to join the India-led Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure would help strengthen the country’s disaster preparedness efforts.
Marcos Jr. also met with Indian business leaders to encourage investments in digital technology, airport infrastructure, electronics, IT-BPO, and payment systems.
Among the projects discussed was the development of Sangley Point International Airport by GMR Group and Cavitex Holdings Inc.
The President also said iSON Group reaffirmed its plan to invest up to US$300 million over 10 years to expand its telecommunications tower network in the Philippines.
Talks were also held with companies such as HCLTech, Cognizant, Hinduja Group, and VVDN Technologies for possible investments in IT services, artificial intelligence, and advanced electronics manufacturing.
