President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has vowed to improve the working conditions and career opportunities of Filipino nurses, recognizing their contribution to the country’s healthcare system and their strong reputation abroad.
Speaking at the Philippine Nurses Association’s National Annual Convention 2026 in Pasay City on Monday, Oct. 19, Marcos Jr. said foreign leaders often commend Filipino nurses for their service.
“Whenever I meet leaders from different countries, the first thing they tell us, they always come up to me and say, ‘we are so grateful for the nurses that have been providing exemplary service for our people,’” he said.
“And so that is how important you have become not only to the Philippines but also to the rest of the world,” the President added.
Marcos Jr. said the government is working to reduce the number of patients assigned to each nurse, fill vacant positions and expand training opportunities.
These efforts involve the Department of Health, Commission on Higher Education and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.
The President also called on government agencies, private companies, schools and communities to work together to strengthen the healthcare system and support nurses’ professional growth.
“To our nurses: Maraming salamat po sa inyong taos-pusong paglilingkod,” Marcos Jr. said.IMT
