President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday, April 20, assured the public that the government is exhausting all legal and diplomatic steps to bring back fugitive former Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy Co, a key figure in the multibillion-peso flood control scandal.
“We will bring Zaldy Co home…to answer to the Filipino people,” Marcos Jr. said, stressing that due process will be followed in securing his return.
The President confirmed that Co is currently in the custody of Czech authorities after he was stopped at the German border on April 16 and sent back to the Czech Republic.
“We will bring Zaldy Co home, and we will do so in accordance with the law. He will answer to the Filipino people,” he added.
The Chief Executive said he has directed the Department of Justice and the Department of Foreign Affairs to coordinate with foreign counterparts to ensure proper and legal procedures.
An inter-agency coordination team will also monitor developments and assist in the process, as the government navigates international legal steps that may take time to complete.IMT
